SMT. VAIDEHI HARISH

Smt. Vaidehi Harish is a senior disciple of Guru Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, the late Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman. She received her early tutelage from Guru Smt. Nirmala Prabhakaran in Hyderabad and later advanced her training under the guidance of Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman at Sri Saraswathi Gana Nilayam in 2003. Following her Arangetram in 2006, she has been actively performing both solo recitals and group presentations under the watchful guidance of her gurus.

Further elevating her artistic journey, she had the privilege of performing in many prestigious Sabhas like Karthik Fine Arts, Mylapore Fine Arts, Parthasarathy Swami Sabha and Brahma Gana Sabha. She has also toured the USA, Canada, Colombo, and Muscat, performing in the acclaimed dance drama productions of Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman.

Building upon this momentum, she consistently expanded her artistic dimensions by complementing her dancing skills with nattuvangam and choreography. Being well-versed in vocal music and the veena, she is also honing her skills in the nuances of abhinaya under Guru Kalaimamani Smt. Jayanthi Subramaniam. Her commanding stage presence has won accolades from many senior and learned artists.

Holding a Master’s degree in Bharatanatyam from the University of Madras, she established her own school, “Nritya Samsrti,” in 2010. Guided by her core philosophy, “Either do it right, or don’t do it,” she serves as the founder and managing trustee, firmly believing in spreading this performing art intensively and benevolently. The registered trust has grown to train over 180 aspiring dancers. Nritya Samsrti not only focuses on training the students to be good performers but also teaches them values to improve as individuals. Prioritising quality over quantity, Vaidehi Harish continues to deliver powerful solo and group performances. Presentations like “Raghuvamsa Thilakam”, “Shanmuga Prabhavam”, “Parashakthi Pugazh”, “Easanadi Potri”, “Panchabootha Mahimai”, “Skandhashram” exemplify her thematic choreographic works.

An ardent devotee of Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi, she conceptualised and choreographed “Ulaga Mahakavi”, a dedication to the people’s poet. Set to music by Dr. Rajkumar Bharathi, Vaidehi Harish played the lead role of Bharathiyar, earning widespread critical acclaim. She followed this success with sequels titled “Mazhalaigalin Mahakavi” and “Thamizhukkum Aram Endra Peyar,” the latter drawing timeless values from the Thirukkural and Pudhiya Aathichoodi.

An active member of ABHAI, Prayathnam, and Vanavil Panpattu Maiyam, she balances her time as a full-time performer, choreographer, and educator. She is an accredited, graded artist of Doordarshan Kendra and is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) at Vels University.
